New Charmer it is done. Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski has announced the completion of another book about the monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, whose adventures enthralled both readers and, a little later, video game players already in the nineties. And it’s not the only return of Geralt, the favorite hero will also appear in another one Witcherovi from CD Projekt and in the series and animated film on Netflix.
“I finished the book. It took me about two years,” stated Andrzej Sapkowski for a French fantasy magazine Chimeras. He thus ended the long wait of book fans Witcher. The last time readers looked into the world of mages and monsters was in the title Storm seasonwhich was published in the Polish original in 2013.
The author has talked about plans for a new book before, but only gave concrete hope last year. That’s when Sapkowski “only” confirmed that he was writing a new one Witcherhas now announced its completion. When will the news get into the hands of readers? This remains uncertain, however, shortly after revealing the work on the new work, he talked about the possibility of a release already this year.
“I would say it will be in bookshops by Christmas 2024. I have enough experience to know how much time is needed,” he declared at the Vienna Comic Con in 2023. If the situation has changed during the following year, only the Polish writer himself knows, whose work has been loved not only by domestic fans but also by multitudes of Czech fans. Not only Polish and Czech readers were excited by the combination of the fantasy genre, a believable world reminiscent of the European Middle Ages and, above all, Slavic mythology. This is what Sapkowski outlined in two books of short stories Last wish a Sword of Fate in the early nineties, followed by a novel saga of five books about the sorcerer Geralt, the sorceress Yennefer and the princess Ciri. Then the story came again Storm season.
About what new Charmer will it Sapkowski already spoke about this last year at the mentioned event in Vienna: “Surely about Geralt, but I won’t reveal more. It stands outside the top five novels.” And unfortunately, at least for now, he will remain Sapkowski’s only new addition to the Witcher brand. “I have no other plans right now,” stated for Chimeras.
In the meantime, without Sapkowski’s books, fans could quench their thirst for fantastic adventures in comics, board games or video games from the Polish studio CD Projekt Red. One of the upcoming games from CD Projekt will be the next place where Geralt of Rivia will appear again. Incidentally, Cockle will reprise his role with his unmistakable voice in the upcoming animated film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep on Netflix. And speaking of Netflix, it’s also gearing up for Geralt’s return. Although with a new face. Henry Cavill, who portrayed the monster hunter in three series of the Netflix adaptation, will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth (yes, Thor’s brother) in the fourth and final, fifth season.
But while Charmer on Netflix is met with a mixed reception at best and lacks enthusiasm, especially among rock fans, the new book from Andrzej Sapkowski will likely be eagerly awaited by fans.
