Castile and Leon | President of the Regional Government of Castile and Leon

During his visit today to the 27th Castilla y León Theatre Fair in Ciudad Rodrigo, the President of the Regional Government, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has put forward this cultural event held every year in the town of Ciudad Rodrigo as an example of the quality of the range of shows that can be enjoyed in the Community, a benchmark, moreover, on the entire national and even international scene.

“Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca and Castilla y León are culture and we want to continue promoting it. That culture can reach all people and all corners, that is the objective that we have from the Government of Castilla y León,” he stressed.

Mañueco pointed out that initiatives such as the Castile and Leon Theatre Fair facilitate access for all citizens to a high-quality, high-level culture. “Culture is a luxury that we must preserve, cultivate and cherish, but we must also make it accessible to all audiences.” He also thanked the involvement of private initiatives which, with the support of the administrations – including the Castile and Leon Regional Government – make it possible for this prestigious fair to be held every year until it reaches its twenty-seventh edition.

This year, the Castilla y León Theatre Fair will feature the participation of more than 40 theatre companies from Spain and Portugal, and more than 250 professional entities are accredited. A unique showcase that attracts more than 30,000 spectators annually.

The economic impact generated by this event in Ciudad Rodrigo and the region is estimated at around 3 million euros. It attracts tourism, energises the area and generates employment, not only in the cultural sector, but also in the hospitality, commerce and companies of the area.
