Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Introduces Exciting Versus Mode – Playable Skaven Units and Thrilling New Gameplay!

When Warhammer: Vermintide 2 first launched, there were rumors that we could play as special enemy units this time around, but when they were released, nothing came of it. No, we had to wait years to get a playable Skaven team in the game, but after checking it out, it looks like it was worth the wait.

Speaking to the design team at Fatshark at a recent preview event, we got an insight into the Herculean effort it took to make Pactsworn work in-game. It’s a balancing act trying to make it both accessible to newer players who might want to try Versus mode, and challenging for existing veterans, but luckily after some closed alpha testing, the community has been very clear. in identifying what works and what doesn’t.

So, what is Versus in Vermintide 2? Well, there’s a new game mode, where one team of 4 plays as your usual heroes, choosing their class and career at the start of a game, while the other team gets a bunch of units special Skaven to choose from. They are: Gutter Runner, Warpfire Thrower, Poison Wind Globadier, Ratling Gunner and Packmaster. Each Skaven unit will be familiar from the base game, with a couple of abilities that give them a unique way to hold down enemies, making it easier for the hordes to pick them apart. Think of Versus as one long mission in Vermintide 2, where the heroes have to complete objectives to earn points, while it’s up to the Pactsworn to stop them. You switch between playing as heroes and the Pactsworn from round to round, and each round you take has points.

Here’s a hint:

From the heroes’ point of view, not much has changed, except that the special enemies you face will now be much smarter. They can hide behind walls and wait for the right moment to strike, or even act as a flag troll when they need to strike. It will definitely give you one of the hardest experiences the game can offer, especially when people with the same skill are playing against each other, because you still have many other enemies to fight against too.

Pactsworn are weaker than the heroes, as they go down after only one or two attacks, but they can respawn as a new unit type every 10-15. either. This makes them more of an inescapable but deadly threat, allowing you to change tactics after death or become the aforementioned fearsome Troll Bill, who was devastating in our preview. This boss unit spawns randomly, but if it’s too easy for the heroes, you’re more likely to get it. On the other hand, it will then spawn in the same place for the enemy team, so it is better that you take note of when and where it appears. Pactsworn can also summon a horde to hinder the heroes’ progress, but if you’re a skilled Vermintide 2 player, you shouldn’t have a problem with the weaker enemies.

After playing as the Ubersreik Five for years, you may be drawn to the Pactsworn, because they are new. They each have a couple of abilities to make use of, and while they aren’t nearly as deep in their mechanical details as the heroes, they are a joy to watch. Boy Runners falling from rooftops, Ratling Gunners capturing the enemy team in a chokepoint, it’s the classic PvP multiplayer that will make you laugh and stay up way too late with your friends. There are also tiers specifically tied to your Versus experience, meaning a new grind for even the most seasoned veterans, and a way to level up your heroes without playing the base game if you haven’t you have increased everything.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Introduces Exciting Versus Mode – Playable Skaven Units and Thrilling New Gameplay!

The games in Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Versus are long, as your three rounds are the Pactsworn and the warriors, so you basically have six rounds. But even if the enemy team gets a way forward, Fatshark has made sure that you don’t just spend the better part of an hour waiting for the inevitable defeat screen, because the rounds are longer on advancing allows you to gain more points, so returns are substantial. always on the cards. The only thing we noticed about the length was that on some maps it seemed like it took a while for the heroes to get any points, with some areas and objectives giving a lot for a short time before a long drought. It also seemed that the Pactsworn would have to coordinate in order to have any hope of stopping the heroes from simply going through a cycle. Being weaker, the Pactsworn rely heavily on chipping away at the heroes gradually, so don’t expect to have a Gutter Runner sweep when you face all your enemies at the one time.

That balance definitely feels like it’s getting there, though, and while the Pactsworn aren’t stacked with abilities, they’re still interesting to watch because of how fresh they feel to the formula. Age of Warhammer: Vermintide 2. In the future of Versus game mode Fatshark believes we will also see more units added to the rat roster, spicing things up with a variety of Skaven to choose from, rather than filling the playable rats. All I have is a playable Rat Ogre. A release is also planned for late this year or early next year, but a lot of that depends on the response to the beta version that runs from August 21st to September 2nd, so if you want that your voice is heard, it is better. start playing!
