The deputy head of the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, Ulises Lara López, stated yesterday that ministerial agents of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Chihuahua sought to illegally execute an arrest warrant against former governor Javier Corral Jurado, for his alleged participation in the crime of embezzlement.
In a message to the media, Lara denied that his intervention and that of the capital’s agents on Wednesday night to prevent the arrest was a rescue
as It has been wrongly and fraudulently pointed out. We strictly comply with the law as it was conferred upon us.
.
He argued that the Chihuahua officials did not have a collaboration document to operate in another state, thereby violating the sovereignty of the capital and incurring in illegal deprivation of liberty and a declaration of illegal detention.
He added that the Chihuahua ministerial agents were accompanied by armed persons, presumed members of the Investigative Police of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of that entity.
The coordinator of Territorial Investigation of the capital’s prosecutor’s office reported that after receiving a call from the former governor’s team, who was at the Gin Gin restaurant in the Roma neighborhood, he went to the place to corroborate the legality of the procedure. It was at that site where the representatives of the Chihuahua Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office tried to arrest Corral.
Lara said that at the restaurant, accompanied by the chief general of the Investigative Police, he confirmed that the attempted arrest was carried out without the presence of agents from the capital corporation.
Chihuahua officials based their actions on a internal office
of August 14, 2024, entered at 8:16 p.m. on Wednesday, minutes before the events.
He said that the document was received by the General Directorate for Attention and Compliance with Judicial Orders, but it is not an acceptance of the collaboration between both prosecutors’ offices, but rather it is part of the procedures of the Mexico City agency.
According to Lara, the Chihuahua prosecutor’s office did not fully exhaust or formalize the corresponding collaboration procedures between the two prosecutors’ offices to carry out a procedure outside their jurisdiction.
As a result of the events, he stressed, of his own free will and to clarify his legal situation, the former governor decided to accompany Lara to the offices of the capital’s prosecutor’s office, according to the official’s account.
Corral Jurado left the courthouse on his own two feet, Since this prosecution did not have any document or court order ordering his arrest
the acting prosecutor reported.
