Gómez Urrutia announces new labor union

Real Del Monte, Hgo. In commemorating the 258th anniversary of the first strike in Mexico and the American continent, Senator Napoleón Gómez Urrrutia announced the creation of a new organization that will bring together the country’s main unions and central organizations, with the intention of reviving and relaunching the national labor movement.

The intention, explained Gómez Urrutia, is to form a common front, a large union coalition that brings together the majority of workers for a better defense of their rights. To begin with, he revealed, there are already 14 confederations and unions willing to do so.

Accompanied by workers and authorities of this municipality with a great mining tradition, he explained that on August 15, 1766, in the middle of the period of Spanish domination in Mexico, the workers of the Real del Monte mines raised their voices and rebelled against the boss, Pedro Romero de Terreros, first Count of Regla, in a protest that anticipated the idea of the Independence movement and in which many lost their lives.

The Miners’ Union, he added, had not yet been formed, but “the Real del Monte workers fought a fierce battle to transform their reality and achieve fair and dignified working conditions in the face of the abuses and enslaving practices to which Romero de Terreros subjected them in order to extract silver and other minerals from the mountains of Hidalgo.

The response of one of the wealthiest men of the colonial era was repression.

More than two and a half centuries later, he added, the work stoppage in the Real del Monte mines was an act of resistance that set a precedent for future union movements in Mexico and around the world. We miners continue to champion the firm and courageous cause so that our rights are never again violated or trampled upon..

The ceremony was held at the monument erected in this city to commemorate the first strike in America and in his speech the Morena senator insisted that No political or social movement in the history of our country, or in the entire world, has been made without the active participation of the working class in the countryside and in the city..

However, he stressed, with globalization, automation and artificial intelligence, it seems that things can move on their own. And even in political speeches they forget to mention the worker, the laborer, the union, as if they were not the ones who with their effort and sacrifice produce the wealth of the country..

Amid shouts of support from his clients, Gómez Urrutia noted that right there in Hidalgo, in Ciudad Sahagún, the miners of section 200 are the ones who have built the cars for the Mayan Train and other railroads, but neither the company nor the government ever mentions them.

Workers, he insisted, are a driving force of industrial activity in any country in the world and it is necessary that they be recognized. It is in this sense, he explained, that they have worked for the constitution of a new labor union, an issue that has been discussed for two months by the main organizations in the country, including the CROC, the CROM, the IMSS unions, the pilots, among other unions.

There has been a lot of dialogue to unify common points and establish an agenda for the working class and it is clear to us that the employers are well organized in their industrial chambers and we are not yet.explained Napoleon Gomez Urrutia in an interview.

He explained that there is an agreement to establish a collegiate leadership in the organization of the labor movement, which will change every two years to give everyone the opportunity to be represented. The name of this coalition has not yet been defined, but the fact that it must be completely non-partisan has been decided.

As soon as the new center is formalized, which could be within two weeks, they will seek a meeting with the president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum.
