GATINEAU, CANADA. August 20, 2024: Canada’s next-generation talent defeated Puerto Rico in the Men’s Final 6 today in Gatineau, Quebec at the Slush Puppie Centre.
The final score was 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19).
Canada dominated in attack points (47-26), had a slight advantage in blocking (7-6) and the serves were also in Canada’s favour 4-0. However, Canada committed more errors, 27-17.
Wide receiver Isaac Heslinga led the scoring for Canada with 17 points, followed by teammate Skyler Varga with 14 points.
Puerto Rico’s Klistan Lawrence Vidal led his team with 14 points.
Canada coach Glenn Hoag said: “We have a lot of things to work on since it’s the first official match with this group. We’ve just been practising, so I think the guys were a little bit nervous and really wanted to do well. The video of this match will be helpful – we can look at different aspects of the game. There are certain things we did well – we received well and the serve was good. But we were rushing things a little bit, so we need to calm down. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied.”
