AMLO: FGR is right to take on investigation into Cuén Ojeda’s murder

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR)’s appeal of the investigation into the murder of the former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, “was correct, that is why we are learning about these contradictions,” said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in reference to the inconsistencies reported by the FGR.

“It’s good that they started from the first moment, because the initial version in the case of the former rector was that he had been executed at the gas station, that he had resisted, that was what the witness who accompanied him declared; then Mr. (Ismael) Zambada said no, they killed him where the encounter took place, and now the FGR is also revealing that there are things that do not match,” he indicated.

In a morning press conference at the National Palace, he insisted that his government demands a “thorough, serious investigation, and that everything be reported, and just wait for the FGR to have elements and be reporting, with complete freedom.”

He said that despite the inconsistencies pointed out by the prosecution, he maintains his support for the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, because “we don’t know if he was aware of this situation, and he has said that he was not in the country, but we are going to wait, to have all the information and for it to be clarified, so that it is not like before when things were hidden. Not hiding absolutely nothing and knowing the causes: why Mr. Zambada was detained or kidnapped, who participated, whether or not there was an agreement with the United States government, everything, everything. Before, these issues could not be discussed in depth, because there were implications from officials at the highest level of the government, now not.”
