/ world today news/ The Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Alexander Novak, stated that since June 16, “Gazprom” has switched to prepayment mode and now supplies gas to Ukraine only within the pre-paid volumes.
Russia does not consider the possibility of allocating credit funds in any form to Ukraine for the purchase of gas in the coming winter, including advancing the transit of blue fuel to Europe, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told journalists.
In the winter gas package, which Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission initialed in Brussels on September 25, it is envisaged that Naftogaz will purchase from Gazprom only 2 billion cubic meters of gas for 500 million dollars in credit, attracted with the help of the European commission. The Russian side has warned of upcoming abnormal cold and believes that Naftogaz will need about 5-7 billion cubic meters of gas, and that Ukraine will not be able to do without additional Russian gas.
“These issues are not discussed. As you know, since June 16, Gazprom has switched to advance payment mode in full compliance with this contract, and now, given the situation, Gazprom supplies gas only within the previously prepaid volumes . There is no question of any kind of crediting or advancing the purchases,” said Novak, answering a question about whether the Russian Federation or Gazprom were considering giving Ukraine credit for the purchase of Russian gas.
The minister also answered negatively to the question of whether a mechanism of advances by Gazprom to Naftogaz could be used at the expense of future transit of gas through Ukraine to Europe. “Since the parties are in court (Stockholm Arbitration – ed.), this topic is also not considered”.
