Juventus coach Thiago Motta was pleased with his new side as they won 3-0 at home to Como in their Serie A opener on Monday.
The Juve delivered a confident performance, beating Comonewly promoted, with Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah et Andrea Cambiaso who all scored in the season opener at the Allianz Stadium. “I am satisfied with the performance but especially with the result. We deserved to win”said Motta at a press conference.
“Both teams demonstrated great organizational skills and adaptability, which allowed them to adjust to the changing situation. I am satisfied. We can improve in this area as well and we will try to do it in all areas. I think this team must and can do it.”
Juve, who won nine consecutive championships between 2012 and 2020, will be hoping for a fresh start under the Italian-Brazilian coach, whose main objective will be to secure the first title of Serie A for the Turin club in four years.“Humility is always necessary”said Motta.
“You always have to be humble, like Dusan did today by dropping back to consolidate the team… We played well against a very good team that came with a lot of enthusiasm. When we have the ball, we have players of great quality, with a great understanding of the moment and the game, and we did very well throughout the game.”
Motta is full of praise for the Serbian Vlahovicwho had a series of chances and a goal disallowed for offside. “Dusan had a great game with and without the ball. For us, he is an important player who the team needs”said Motta.
Vlahovic could have doubled the advantage of the Juve just before the break on a free kick, but Pepe Reinathe guardian of Comodove to make the save, before the 24-year-old forward hit the far post seconds later. “We have to recover from this match, find energy and focus on Hellas Verona”added Motta.
“They are a tough team, as they showed on the first day, and we have to do a good job.”
Véronewho finished 13e last season, crushed Naples 3-0 at home on Sunday thanks to an opening goal from Dailon Deliverance and a double of Daniel Mosquera.
