In honor of the Independence Day of Ukraine on August 24, the public media and “Ziedot.lv” agree on a 3-week support campaign for Ukraine, asking for donations to the defenders of Ukraine.
During this time, the daily news about Ukraine will be supplemented with special interviews and reports from the war zone, stories about the daily life of Ukrainians in Ukraine and Latvia.

As pressure increases on the eastern front in the Donetsk region, authorities in Pokrovsk and Mirnohrad are asking local residents to leave. The direction of Pokrovsk remains the area where the most intense fighting takes place in eastern Ukraine. The highest number of accidents was recorded there last week.
Latvijas Radio, referring to what local officials have already said namethat the evacuation of residents in the Donetsk region is likely to take up to two weeks.
The newspaper “Financial Times” reports that the defense in the Donetsk region began to crack a few days before the start of the Kursk operation. About 10,000 troops were deployed for the operation, including many air and mechanized brigades.
One commander of the Ukrainian artillery brigade in eastern Ukraine expressed the opinion to the newspaper that the reason for the strengthening of the Russian offensive is partly related to the movement of part of limited resources Kyiv to the north.
It is said that the brigade of the special commander has returned to the rationing of weapons, as part of the weapons that were planned for the Eastern Front have also been sent to the action in Kursk.

On August 6, the first news about the Ukrainian army appeared attack in the Kursk region of Russia. Representatives of the Ukrainian forces say that during the attack, they managed to capture dozens of towns and take control of up to 1,000 square kilometers of land.
Ukraine still avoids mentioning the news about this military operation, but it says – destroyed in Russia the normal form of life, war for the Russian people must feel themselves.
Analysts consideringthat Ukraine is trying to achieve several goals with this military operation: to weaken the supply routes of the Russian army, to force Moscow to withdraw part of its forces from the territory of Ukraine, to improve the mood of the Ukrainian people by humiliating the Putin, as well as to improve the situation of Ukraine before possible peace talks.
