Wojciech Szczęsny was the “number one” in Juventus for years, becoming a worthy successor to the legendary Gianluigi Buffon. The Polish international played 252 matches for the Turin team, keeping a clean sheet in 103.
Ultimately, the Polish goalkeeper and the Turin club reached an agreement to terminate the contract. According to media reports, Szczęsny can count on several million euros in compensation.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper gave an interview to Mateusz Święcicki from Eleven Sports, in which he commented on the decision of his former club >>> Generally, I think that this is not a wise decision on the part of the club, but I have absolutely no regrets.
In a conversation with Mateusz Święcicki, Szczęsny slightly lifted the veil of secrecy regarding his future. He didn’t reveal much, but he was asked whether he would decide to play for another club or maybe decide to end his career.
– For now, I am in Marbella. I know 80 percent what I will do, but I cannot say too early – indicated Szczęsny and explained the situation regarding the Polish national team.
– Will I play for the national team? It depends on the next step in my career and if I decide that this year is my last, then I won’t be in the national team. If it’s something longer-term, then I could be in the national team.
According to media reports, the clubs interested in the services of the Polish goalkeeper include AC Monza, ACF Fiorentina and teams from Saudi Arabia. However, the player himself emphasized in an interview for Eleven Sports that he will definitely not go to Saudi Al-Nassr, and also rejected the possibility of continuing his career in Italy.
In turn, Spanish media speculate that the 2020/2021 Europa League winner, Villarreal, who finished eighth in La Liga last season, is considering signing Szczęsny. The Pole would be one of the candidates to replace Filip Jorgensen in goal, who left for Chelsea. However, there are doubts as to whether the Spanish club will be able to meet the player’s financial requirements.
Szczęsny also enjoys considerable recognition in England, where he played for Arsenal.
