Thunderstorms, snow and cold

Mega’s meteorological journalist, Alejandro Sepúlveda, announced that intense weather is expected this week in Santiago and other areas of the central zone. Thunderstorms, snowfall in unusual areas of the central zone, precipitation, winds, frost and cold are forecast.

Segregated cargo enters the country this week

Alejandro Sepúlveda reported that a segregated low is preparing to enter the country. It is expected to affect the southern zone starting Tuesday night, and on Wednesday it will also cover the central zone, with showers from the Valparaíso region to Puerto Montt. This segregated low will not leave homogeneous rain in all regions, but showers.

In which areas could snow fall?

Snow is expected in coastal mountain ranges and foothills in the Andean area. The segregated low will bring showers from Valparaíso to the south, and an isothermal low of around a thousand meters above sea level is expected. This will particularly affect the foothills of Santiago, as well as O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Biobío.

Wind for this week in the Metropolitan Region

Winds are forecast in the mountain ranges of the northern and central areas, with speeds of up to 100 km/h and 60 km/h respectively. This can generate blizzards or white winds, so it has been recommended not to go up to areas of the mountain range. An Early Preventive Alert has also been issued for municipalities in the Metropolitan Region.

Cold in Santiago this week

A very cold week is expected in Santiago, with maximum temperatures below the average for August. Temperatures will not exceed 13°C until Friday. On Tuesday, temperatures between 4°C and 11°C are forecast, with possible showers in the afternoon in the foothills and mountains. On Thursday, frost and temperatures between 0°C and 12°C are expected.
