Danielle Fishel announced that she has been diagnosed with a form of breast cancer.
The actress shared the news on the Monday, August 19 episode of the podcast “Pod Meets World“, which he co-hosts with Boy Meets World alumni Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
“I’d like to share something with our listeners, something that Rider and Will were two of the first people I told the news to,” he began.
“I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer.
It’s very, very, very early. Technically it’s stage zero. To be specific, because I like to have a lot of information all the time, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with microinvasion.”
“I’m going to be fine. I’m going to have surgery to remove it,” he added. “I’m going to be on follow-up treatment. I’ve had to make a lot of decisions in the last few days.”
Words from the actress
Danielle Fishel decided to share her diagnosis to encourage women to speak out in addition to getting their own tests done. annual mammograms.
“The only reason I found out about this cancer when it was still stage zero is because the day I got the text message saying I was getting my annual mammogram, I made the appointment,” she explained.
“They caught it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine. I hope this encourages anyone to get tested. If you have to find out you have cancer, find out at stage zero, if possible.”
DCIS occurs when cells within a breast duct “develop changes in their DNA,” resulting in too many cells, the Mayo Clinic reports.
“In DCIS, cancer cells do not yet have the ability to leave the breast duct and spread to the breast tissue.”
