Feature film New Zealand 2017 A corpse draped as a scarecrow shocks a small farm in Brokenwood. Detective Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea), Detective Sims (Fern Sutherland) and DC Breen (Nic Sampson) are faced with a mystery after the murder of Philip Henderson (Mike Edward). The investigators soon learn from beekeeper Tamati (Mark Ruka) that the murdered man had recently had a heated argument with neighbors, the rough-and-tumble Doug (Peter Tait) and his business-minded wife Trudy (Tracy Lee Gray). As Shepherd finds out, the conflict ranges from an unpaid bill in Trudy’s bar to Philip’s accusation of damaging his bee population with insecticide. In the course of the case, the investigators find out that honey production is not just a side job, but “liquid gold,” because high-priced gourmet honey is produced in the area around Brokenwood. This makes the machinations of businessman Larry (Adam Gardiner), who wants to buy the farm of Philip’s twin brother Thomas (also Mike Edward), all the more dubious. Detective Sims has a special connection to the case: her best friend Dahlia Freyburg (Tai Berdinner-Blades) was in a relationship with the murder victim Philip. With Neill Rea, Fern Sutherland, Nic Sampson, Cristina Serban Ionda, Rawiri Jobe and others | Script: Greg McGee and Timothy Balme | Director: Joshua Frizzell
