Australian cyclist Matthew Richardson announced that he has decided to play internationally for Great Britain, days after winning three Olympic medals for Australia.
Richardson, 25, won the silver medal in the individual sprint and the Keirin race at the Paris Games, as well as the bronze medal in the team sprint.
Richardson was born in Maidstone, England, and moved to Australia when he was nine years old.
He said on Instagram: “I’ve made the decision to pack my bags and move to the other side of the world to start the next chapter of my cycling career, and it’s with a sense of excitement that I announce that I joined the British cycling team Changing my sporting nationality was a difficult decision, and one I did not take lightly. It was a personal choice I made after that… it will always be part of my personality.”
