From the work:

“La Traviata” tells the story of Violetta Valery, a courtesan and protégé of Baron Douphol, in Paris in 1860. Seriously ill with tuberculosis, she lives a life of luxury but has never known true love. At one of the parties she hosts for the Parisian aristocracy, she meets Alfredo Germont, a young man from a good family who assures her that he has loved her for a long time. She refuses to accept him, but finally gives in to her first genuine love.

They move together to the countryside where they are happy for a few months until Alfredo’s father, Giorgio, visits her to demand that she abandon her son. He reproaches her for being a courtesan and he, a man of good family. Finally, with her heart broken, Violetta agrees to abandon Alfredo, asking in exchange that when she dies, he tells her of the sacrifice she made for love.

In order to get Alfredo to go away, she goes to a party with her former lover, Baron Douphol. Alfredo, upon learning of this, goes to the same party and, overcome with jealousy, offends her in front of all the guests and challenges the Baron to a duel. In the final act, Violetta lies dying on her bed. She has received a letter from Alfredo’s father telling her that the duel took place and the Baron was injured. She has also told Alfredo the whole truth about what happened. Alfredo, who was away on a trip, runs into her arms to ask for forgiveness.

Upon arriving and finding her in that state, he swears eternal love to her and dreams of a life together in the countryside, where everything will be happiness, but Violetta dies in his arms.
