The 1st Prefectural Committee of Athens SYRIZA Progressive Alliance approved by a large majority the following resolution:
The action of our comrade, the representative of diaspora Hellenism on the State ballot Othonas Iliopoulos, to resign as an MP in favor of the party’s president Stefanos Kasselakis, not only reflects the will of the members and voters of the SYRIZA PS but constitutes a supreme act of political courage and empathy towards to the progressive world of the country that is anxious about the future of our country after five years of disastrous Mitsotakis rule.
It is at the same time an act with a didactic character, which was carried out with the priority of the authentic representation of SYRIZA PS through its president elected by its base in the field of parliamentary confrontation.
As is well known, the staffing of the state ballot is traditionally the prerogative of the respective president, therefore it would be paradoxical from every point of view that the president of SYRIZA PS, and even as first runner-up from abroad, would not have the opportunity to authentically represent our party and the people of SYRIZA PS in parliament, where the leading institutional political battles are fought.
As NE 1st Athens, we already experienced the bitter experience of the distortion of the will of the voters of our electoral district, through a divisive split which deprived the parliamentary representation of SYRIZA PS in 1st Athens in a morally and politically unacceptable way.
Representing the historical Prefectural Committee of the First Athens and expressing the will of our thousands of members, we call on all involved candidates, guided by the moral advantage of the Left, to assume their responsibilities towards the Greek people and pave the way so that SYRIZA-PS has the genuine representation it is entitled to in parliament through the President of Stefanos Kasselakis.
Any other development will constitute yet another violation of the authentic will of the members and voters of SYRIZA PS which will be judged very strictly both by the members of the party themselves and by the history of the Left and the Progressive Faction.
