AMLO and Sheinbaum assess the security situation in Michoacán

Morelia, MichPresident Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the elected leader, Claudia Sheinbaum, met behind closed doors at the headquarters of the 21st Military Zone of the capital of Michoacan, with Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla and security commanders from the state and the country to analyze problems that prevail in the entity.

The meeting was held with the full cabinet of security in the midst of the lemon conflict that began on August 12 with the partial strike of packing plants and suspension of citrus harvesting due to the low prices at which they sell their product to the packing plants – between 7 and 8 pesos per kilo – as well as extortion by organized crime.

An evaluation meeting that not only brought together the President and the president-elect but also the secretaries of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval; of the Navy, Rafael Ojeda; of Public Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodriguez; and of the Interior, Luisa Maria Alcalde, as well as the governor, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla.

At the end of the meeting, through his social networks, the state leader thanked the federal government for its support in the midst of the lemon growers’ crisis due to extortion by organized crime:

It should be noted that one of the reasons for the armed uprising of self-defense groups in February 2013 in the municipalities of Buenavista and Tepalcatepec was precisely the payment of fees by lemon producers to criminals. A similar problem occurred a year ago, although according to former self-defense leaders this evil has prevailed for more than a decade.

The meeting between Obrador and Sheinbaum took place at the facilities of the 21st Military Zone.
