This was stated by the US Ambassador to Bulgaria Eric Rubin in an interview with Nova TV.
“If it was up to me, the visas would be canceled immediately. I agree that this is the important thing for the Bulgarians”, declared the ambassador. “We realize that applying for visas is expensive, that it takes time, and especially for people who do not live in Sofia, it is a big challenge, but we have laws that regulate when the visa regime for a certain country can expire. I don’t want to lie to you that we can change these rules,” commented Rubin.
“To be honest, Bulgaria does not meet the requirements. The most important criterion is that the number of people who are denied a visa is very few. Those who remain in the US illegally after obtaining a visa must also be minimized. I don’t want to mislead you with a promise that the visas will fall soon, but I and the people from the embassy are making a lot of efforts to make this happen”, emphasized the US ambassador.
