The deceased plumber Ron van Uffelen was commemorated last night in Vlaardingen. Dozens of attendees observed a moment of silence at 11 p.m. There was applause and fireworks were set off. The memorial moment was created in consultation with the family, the police and the city of Vlaardingen.
Van Uffelen died unexpectedly last Monday at the age of 45 after being taken to hospital with heart problems.
attacks
The plumber’s house was the target of several attacks. His cars and business premises were also attacked. A firebomb was thrown into the home of family members. As a result of all the attacks, the family was no longer allowed to live in the house by order of the mayor.
At the beginning of July, Van Uffelen and his family were allowed to return home after the mayor decided not to extend the closure. Additional measures were taken around the house, such as additional camera surveillance and sandbags next to the house. The plumber himself has always said that he did not know why he was the target of the attacks.
Two days after Van Uffelen’s death, two more explosives were found in front of the house. Following the discovery, police arrested two people on the A4. A third suspect was later arrested. Security measures were subsequently tightened around the relative’s home.
Golden suggestion
The police have already arrested several people for planting explosives. One person has been sentenced to fourteen months in prison.
The Public Prosecution Service has offered a reward of 50,000 euros for the golden tip leading to the client’s arrest.
