In a joint statement released on Saturday, the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy called on “all parties to continue to engage positively and flexibly in the negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.”

The joint statement said: “The United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy strongly support the ongoing mediation efforts of the United States, Egypt and Qatar to conclude the ceasefire and hostage release agreement and are encouraged by the constructive approach adopted to date.”

“We welcome the fact that technical work will continue in the coming days, including on humanitarian provisions and specific provisions related to hostages and detainees, and that senior officials will meet again at the end of next week to finalise the agreement,” the statement adds.

The four countries also stress the importance of avoiding escalated actions in the region that could jeopardize the prospects for peace. “There is too much at stake,” the statement concludes.

On the other hand, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated on social networks: “Together with my colleagues from the United Kingdom, Germany and France, I support the current efforts of the United States, Egypt and Qatar (…)” We must not waste any time: “Let us work together with all the countries of the region to give the Middle East a perspective of stability and peace.” EFE
