(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 17 AUG – Sudden and violent downpours also hit the Cagliari area. Capoterra was the one to pay the price, where, according to the rainfall stations of Sardegna Clima Aps, 93 mm of rain fell in the afternoon (40 mm in the hills opposite, in Poggio dei Pini). Inconvenience for citizens: a family in the historic center had to ask for help from the Civil Protection to deal with the beginning of flooding in the courtyard. A small tree fell in the center and several manhole covers were torn out by the force of the water. Mud in the street in via Cagliari in the area between via Assisi and via Siena. Mayor Beniamino Garau also immediately carried out an inspection: “The canals are holding up well with water – he explained to ANSA – the biggest problem was in the area of via Cagliari. A situation that occurs when the surface is dry because it hasn’t rained for a long time. Even parts of the asphalt have come off, but all in all we can’t complain. The storm was concentrated in just one area: in the coastal part of the territory not a single drop of water fell”. Teams of volunteers, local police and volunteers in action, but the situation already seems to have returned to normal: “We had no warning – continues Garau – the strength of these storms is also linked to the high temperatures of the sea. A sudden and very violent downpour”. Meanwhile, the regional civil protection has issued an ordinary alert for hydrogeological risk for storms in the alert areas Flumendosa Flumineddu, Tirso, Gallura and Logudoro. The storm cell is now affecting the central south of the island, in particular Villacidro and Gonnosfanadiga. (ANSA).
