On Saturday night, a 24-year-old man from Cologne who was presumably heavily intoxicated hit two young men from Herne on a sidewalk on Rodenkirchener Strasse in the Rondorf district.
A 21-year-old and a 27-year-old were critically injured.
According to initial statements, the driver was driving a black Mercedes CLK 230 on Rodenkirchener Strasse at a significantly excessive speed. At around 12:30 a.m., near the “Am Höfchen” junction, he veered off the road to the right, hit the two pedestrians, crashed into a house wall and was thrown into a wall on the opposite side of the street.
A breathalyzer test on the 24-year-old showed a value of
almost 1.5 per mille. The police ordered a blood test and confiscated the young man’s Mercedes and driver’s license.
The police are asking witnesses who noticed the black Mercedes on Rodenkirchener Straße or who can provide information about the accident to contact the traffic police investigators by phone on 0221 229-0 or by email at [email protected].
