Texas Parents Charged in Death of Daughter, Allegedly Ignoring Medical Help for Smoothies and Vitamins

Texas Parents Arrested Following Daughter’s Tragic Death

Two residents from Texas, Denise Balbaneda, aged 36, and Gerald Gonzales, 40, are currently facing serious legal repercussions in the wake of their 12-year-old daughter’s death. Authorities have charged them with injury to a child resulting in serious bodily harm by omission, which is categorized as a first-degree felony. Each has been assigned a bond of $200,000.

Details of the Case

The deceased child, identified as Miranda Sipps, was a cheerleader at Jourdanton Junior High School and suffered from life-threatening injuries on August 8. Instead of seeking medical help, the girl’s mother and stepfather allegedly took her home and attempted to manage her critical condition with smoothies and vitamins.

On the evening of August 12, after witnessing respiratory difficulties in their daughter, Balbaneda opted to call 911, revealing that their preparations to transport her to the hospital had been futile.

Emergency Response

The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office reported that when Balbaneda dialed emergency services at around 8 p.m., they instructed her to stop her vehicle on the highway so that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) could assist the child directly.

Investigation Findings

Upon arrival, EMS found Miranda alive but unconscious. She was quickly transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The sheriff’s office is actively pursuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injuries sustained by the young girl, focusing on the period leading up to their decision not to seek immediate medical attention.

Current Status of the Parents

Authorities continue to investigate the case as the parents await further legal proceedings and the implications of their alleged negligence in caring for their daughter.
