BEIRUT (Reuters) – At least nine people were killed and five wounded in an Israeli attack on a residential building in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh, the National News Agency reported on Saturday.
Israel’s military said the air strike targeted a military base used by Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon.
Tensions have increased in the region in recent weeks following a missile attack on the occupied Golan Heights, which resulted in the death of 12 elderly people. Israel held Hezbollah responsible for this attack and responded by killing one of the group’s senior leaders in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Both Hezbollah and Iran promised to respond to Israel because of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in Tehran.
