Due to constant shelling from the Russian Federation, 21,000 people have already been evacuated from the Sumy region, and another 25,000 citizens are next in line.
This was announced by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko on Ukrainian television, reports Ukrinform.
“At this time, 21,000 of our citizens living in the border zone of the Sumy region have been evacuated. We are ready to evacuate another 25,000 people,” he said.
The official added that 75 percent of those evacuated from Sumy Oblast were children.
Klymenko noted that the evacuation is being carried out by the National Police and the State Emergency Service.
“We are working with the military administrations, which are determining the settlements and the number of people who need to be evacuated. Most people in the Sumy region understand the evacuation and the security measures taken by the authorities in these areas,” he said.
