La Romanza Vallenata, the air that makes the Cuna de Acordeones Festival different

Since last August 1, registration has been open to participants in the various competitions that will be held at the 46 Cuna de Acordeones Festival that will be held from September 18 to 21, 2024 in Villanueva, La Guajira .

In the competitions, the airs vallenatos, walking, merengue, mac and puya, will be played by the competitors in the different categories: professional box players, amateur box players, youth box players and children box players. Cultural events such as Fèis Cuna de Acordeones try to generate identity and preserve interestin the performance of Vallenato folk music across different generations.

Villanueva and his festival have been proposing a fifth air, a topic that has been discussed for decades, arguing that the “Romanza Vallenata” or vallenato lyric is a legitimate air that should be included with it highlights the qualities of accordion players who define the romantic melodies of many composers who changed and introduced a new form of vallenato music to the world.

For this reason, this year’s tribute to Rita Fernández Padilla stands out, the first woman to receive this recognition from a folklore and cultural event of great national importance such as the Cuna de Acordeones Festival . Among his works, the classic vallenato “Sombra Perdida” stands out, a song that went around the world with the Binomio de Oro and is today recognized as a folkloric classic.

The invitation, in this edition of the Cuna de Acordeones Festival, is that you appreciate the competition of accordion players in all categories, in the five musical repertoires and learn why Villanueva and the festival continues to praise the “Romanza Vallenata”.
