The children, aged four and two, were taken to hospital after being hit by a van early in the morning.

Two children have been hospitalised after being hit by a van at a junction this morning.

One of the four youths suffered serious head injuries after the accident, which happened at around 8am in Basildon, Essex.

A second child, only two years old, was also injured in the collision.

The van driver stopped at the scene and Essex Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Basildon in which two young children were injured, one seriously.”

‘Officers were called at around 8am this Friday (August 16) to reports that a van had collided with two young children at a junction in Broadmine.

‘A four-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

‘A two-year-old child was also injured, but not as seriously.

“The vehicle, a white Citroën van, stopped at the scene and our investigation is continuing.
