Swedish duo crowned men’s beach volleyball champions at Paris Olympics

Paris. The Swedish duo of David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig won gold in men’s beach volleyball at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday.

With the Eiffel Tower in the background, the world’s number one pair easily beat third-seeded Germans Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler, winners of the silver medal, in just 34 minutes, 2-0 with scores of 21-10 and 21-13.

In a beach volleyball that was the star of these Games, thanks to the unbeatable location of its stadium built for the competition very close to the ‘Iron Lady’ in Paris, the Swedes – both 22 years old – maintained an insurmountable advantage over their rivals throughout the match.

With gold secured, the Swedes enjoyed the picture postcard completed by a joyful grandstand – filled in several sections with yellow and blue shirts – who, as throughout the Olympic volleyball tournament, came out in droves to enjoy the sport, not missing the opportunity to take selfies in one of the most picturesque settings of the Games.

Bronze went to Tokyo 2020 champions Anders Mol and Christian Sørum of Norway, who beat Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan in straight sets 21-13, 21-16 in just 34 minutes.

In the women’s competition, Brazilians Ana Patricia and Duda, world number one, confirmed their worth by winning gold in an intense final against Canadians Brandie and Melisse in three sets (26-24, 12-21 and 15-10).
