Claudia Sheinbaum received today from the Electoral Tribunal the certificate that accredits her as the first woman elected in Mexico.
For the first time, this certificate was presented by a woman: Mónica Soto, president of the Court.
“This act will go down in the history of Mexican democracy to tell you: Mexico has broken the glass ceiling,” Soto said.
For her part, Sheinbaum, who will take office on October 1, thanked millions of Mexicans who have placed their trust in her.
She highlighted that the Siguemos Haciendo Historia movement, of which she was a presidential candidate, obtained 35 million 924 thousand 519 votes, which represents 59.76 percent of the total vote and 32 points above her closest rival.
“An unprecedented and historic event,” emphasized the future Mexican president, who pledged to continue the transformation of the country in favor of the people initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
At the ceremony, he stressed that the people of Mexico also decided by a majority on a true justice system that is equal for all Mexicans, a system that also includes the separation between economic power and the power of justice.
A state of law and therefore, we should not fear democracy, he emphasized.
“Juarez said that democracy is the destiny of humanity; freedom is its indestructible arm,” recalled the president-elect.
“As the first female president of Mexico, know that I will act with honesty, responsibility, respecting the independence of the powers, I will govern for all Mexicans, and be assured that we will all feel more proud of our origins and our future every day,” she said.
