“News companies do not age over the years, but on the contrary, they become stronger” – 2024-08-16 03:13:08

The overcast sky played in our favor to celebrate in style the one hundred and ninth anniversary of the founding of the newspaper El Rancagüino, where the facilities of this newspaper received guests and anyone who wanted to join in the celebration of more than a century of bringing information to the entire region of O’Higgins, and based on an editorial line to promote regionalism, cultural values and local progress.

Authorities, deputies, senators, politicians, candidates, artists, friends and readers in general gathered together so that everyone, along with those who daily work on the production of this newspaper, could participate in an evening of shared good music, gifts and many surprises.

Our director, Don Alejandro González, gave an emotional and motivational speech when he expressed that the tradition of meeting with all friends every August 15th at noon to share, celebrate, talk and plan for the future has been maintained.

“Today we are celebrating just 109 years, because news companies like ours do not age or deteriorate over the years, but on the contrary, they become stronger,” said Don Alejandro before a large audience that filled the spaces of our old workshops.

Giving an example, González pointed out that, “unlike many other actors in the community, such as politicians, they give exams every four years, we give exams every day.”

He continued by saying that in these 109 years they have many followers, always adhering to very strict ethical standards, acknowledging that “sometimes we have made mistakes and we have retracted our mistakes, but we have never been accused of anything serious,” and that in these 109 years we have had some legal action for the things that have been said.

“We have always held on to our independence, to fighting for what the founder left us as a function and task,” said our director while the large audience listened very attentively.

He mentioned that the regionalism that has characterized the newspaper has always been in their blood and all of that has been transmitted through generations, because those who are here now learn from the past, and more than that, “we are a newspaper, but we are also a kind of diary of life in the sixth region.”

Our director also said that “the readers of tomorrow, who may not even be born yet, will have our story, reports, testimonies, photos, videos and all those things that we are creating, reporting on every day and saving for the present and the future.”

González said that the basic principles that govern everyone who works at this company will always be the same, because he believes in creating effective, efficient journalism that serves the region, so that people can make good decisions and we can achieve a certain autonomy and independence from central power and together we can be better and better.

Next, our deputy director, Luis Fernando González, gave a presentation on the user and follower indicators of all our digital platforms, which make us the most read media outlet at a regional level and beyond our borders.

With audited figures, the deputy director of El Rancagüino documented in his audiovisual presentation the way in which our readership has grownnot only through our paper newspaper, but also on social media. Among other figures, he showed that despite the sustained growth of the web, the most read content is still paper, but in electronic format either through WhatsApp or directly on the website. “Nothing can yet replace the impact of a good cover,” he said.

Some of the authorities present at this anniversary event were the Mayor of Rancagua, Emerson Avendaño; General Max Jiménez, head of the Sixth Zone of Carabineros; the Seremi of Government, Carlos Carrasco; the Senator, Juan Luis Castro; the deputy, Natalia Romero; the Mayor of Coltauco, Félix Sánchez; the councilors of Rancagua, Valentina Cáceres and María del Carmen Orueta; the regional councilors, Lenin Arroyo and Mauricio Valderrama, among other personalities from the political, business, commercial and general public worlds.

Mayor Emerson Avendaño also took the stage and praised the most important newspaper in the O’Higgins region as a faithful collaborator in the development of the capital city and which, through truthful and timely information, enhances freedom of expression in its 109 years of existence.

General Max Jiménez presented our director with a gift on behalf of the police institution, which consisted of a text that marks the history of Carabineros de Chile. He also presented a gift on behalf of the Lieutenant Raúl Madrid Division.

The occasion was also a good opportunity to award the three winners of the “Photographing my Neighborhood” Contest, who received their prizes: Maria Elena Flores, took third place (Niebla Miraflores), Francisco Pinto, second place (San Francisco Church) and Javier Abarca won first place with a striking photograph that captivated the public (Torres Alameda).

The musical show was led by the duo Bearrivers, two young natives of the commune of Coltauco, who impressed those present with their impeccable performance.

In unison with the Happy Birthday song, the guests accompanied the traditional cake for the 109th anniversary of the El Rancagüino newspaper, where, as always, the candles were blown out by the youngest attendees.

Closing this anniversary evening, a raffle was held for some samples of handicrafts made by entrepreneurs who make a living in our commune of Rancagua and who were part of our celebration.
