Spain is one of the countries that least streamlines the procedures for Venezuelans to reside or work – 2024-08-16 03:12:01

The Canary Islands-based Association for Solidarity with Venezuela has asked the Spanish government to speed up the process for the 400,000 Venezuelans residing in that country.

Spain is one of the countries that has placed the most obstacles in the way of Venezuelans residing or working in that country, which is why a large part of them remain in an irregular situation or with low-paying jobs.

For this reason, the Association of Venezuelans in Madrid has also asked the government to speed up the procedures so that they can be regularized.

However, this is not so easy because Spain, as a member of the European Union, also has laws on migration issues that all member states must comply with.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Latin American countries, having an independent autonomy, each country regulates its immigration system at its own pace and need.

Furthermore, Spain, due to its current immigration laws, has increased its aid to migrants from African or Arab countries rather than to the migrant community from other parts of Latin America.

For example, it is easier for a Venezuelan to obtain work or residence permits in Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay or Peru than in any European country, including, obviously, Spain.

For this reason, the Association for Solidarity with Venezuela has reiterated to the authorities to move forward more quickly with the legalization procedures for Venezuelans residing in that country and the new argument is that “the tension increased in Venezuela after the elections of July 28. The ruling party gave the victory to President Nicolás Maduro without showing the official records. This while the opposition led by Edmundo González claims that it won by a wide margin” as reported by EFE.

Venezuelan regularization in Spain slows down due to wars between Israel and Ukraine

Another problem facing Venezuelans in Spain is that their regularisation has slowed considerably due to the war in Ukraine and the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which is increasingly driving out migrants from these countries seeking refuge in the European Union.

On the other hand, there is an immense fear among Venezuelans of being deported to Venezuela as has already happened in previous years when they were expelled from countries such as France, Germany, Norway and Denmark. EFE
