AA Gent has put a lot of effort into keeping its European adventure alive. They were close to elimination at 1-2 against Silkeborg, but were able to win extra time through Omri Gandelman in extra time. In these expansions it was Gandelman who finished Ghent’s work again in summary 119. In the playoffs of the Conference League they will now face Partizan from Serbia.
KAA Gent – Silkeborg in brief:
- A key moment
Silkeborg looked to be on their way to the Conference League playoffs, but that was past Omri Gandelman. In the 96th minute, the ice agent remained calm when he received the small rectangular ball, coolly and in the end he fired Ghent into extra time.
- Man of the game
Until the 96th minute we had identified Tobbi Adamsen as the man of the match. With – just like in the first leg – again 2 goals against Ghent, he was the founder of the Danish stunt in Ghent. But Omri Gandelman threw a spanner in the works. With two goals, one at the end of regular playing time and one at the end of extra time, Gandelman unexpectedly extended Ghent’s European adventure.
- amazing
Tobbi Adamsen proved to be particularly effective against the Buffaloes. He stopped twice in the first leg and the second leg. As a result, Roef had to turn around a total of four times because of the Danish striker. Adamsen scored a total of 6 times in the opening round of the Conference League, but that was it.
“Phew”, a sigh of relief from Vrancken & co. Because it’s more like flirting with the premature elimination of Europe than that KAA Gent tonight against Silkeborg did the impossible.
Silkeborg IF ready to write history and entered the field of Ghent with confidence and fearlessness. They took full advantage of a sluggish start from Ghent, who were tactically in touch by switching from a 3-5-2 defensive formation to an attacking 4-3-3. Found Vrancken, but apparently still too difficult for the players.
Partly because of this, the visitors were allowed to keep the ball in their own team undisturbed for several minutes, which led to the perfect preparation for the 0-1 lead. Adamsen cleverly tapped in a good cross behind the half-back past Roef.
Fortunately, Ghent came back into the game. Without realizing it, Dean got the equalizer. While falling, he unfortunately directed the rebound to save Silkeborg goalkeeper Larsen from Kums’ shot into the goal. Not his prettiest, but a much needed one. Because the 1-1 lit the Ghent fuse, but the intended scoring was much more difficult.
Gandelman in gray, part 1
The people of Ghent came out of the changing rooms with renewed confidence, but they soon sank back into their shoes.
Nurio tackled Dane in the penalty area and the Spanish referee grimly pointed to the spot. Just like in the first leg, it was a breeze for Adamsen, who sent Roef the wrong way and scored his fourth goal against the Buffaloes.
A strike that Ghent had a hard time with, especially as the strikers were unable to be effective. In the remaining half hour, Vrancken changed half of his team, but despite a lot of offensive violence, nothing seemed to help.
In the Danish goal there was a goalkeeper who did everything he could to complete the Danish stunt. First, Larsen deflected a shot from Delorge after a well-run number at a Kums free-kick, then with a cat-like reflex he prevented Dean from equalizing the hard-hitting strike his
Until Omri Gandelman turned on the field and the clock hit minute 96.
When the Israelis brought the ball into the box, he did what he did so well in the play-offs last season: stay calm and score. He coolly shot the Buffaloes from despair to hope, from despair to faith, from elimination from Europe to a lifeline of 30 extra minutes.
Gandelman in gray, part 2
And also in extra time, it was the home team who claimed the winning goal the most. Especially since the Danish bobbin was completely uncoated. The number of razor-sharp counters from the first hour has been reduced to rare overtime conversions that failed. And Ghent was simply the better team physically.
Dean saw several missed opportunities. After his unexpected goal, the story of his game. Lots of grit and fighting spirit, but little efficiency. And Ghent also deserved a penalty when Fernandez-Pardo was caught in the big rectangle, but neither the Spanish representative nor the VAR noticed.
And so Omri Gandelman had to do the job again and he knew how to choose his moments to do that. Again he stayed cool at the end of the playing period when the ball hung for a moment, twice tapping it past Larsen and giving the Buffalos delirium.
It was hanging by a very thin thread, but Ghent went through the eye of the needle and booked the Conference League games with the necessary effort and extra playing minutes.
Next week they travel to Serbia to take on Partizan from Belgrade. With equal weapons, as Partizan was knocked out of the Europa League after extra time by Switzerland’s FC Lugano.
Gandelman: “He is not a hero, but very important”
- Mike Dean (Gent): “It was up and down the whole game, but in the end we’re happy to move on to the next round. I like to score, that’s why I’m here, that’s why I’m a striker. And it doesn’t matter which part of the body Although I wasn’t satisfied that I couldn’t take other chances.
- Omri Gandelman (Gent): “I won’t mention the hero. It was a difficult game, but so important. The importance of Europe cannot be overstated. We hope to continue with ‘good vibes after this win in the tournament. When I sat on the bench, I waited patiently for my chance and it came at the end of normal time and extra time. It’s a feeling. amazing to be able to score.
FINAL: Gent 3-2 Silkeborg
How exciting that was! Ghent flirted with elimination from Europe early on, but Omri Gandelman didn’t expect that. The Israeli invasion was one for the Ghent history books. In overtime of regular playing time he gave the Buffaloes a lifeline of 30 more minutes. And at the very end of extra time, he knocked Ghent into the playoffs of the Conference League, the last preliminary round before the group stage. Ghent deserved it, because after an hour of football it was over at Silkeborg and the home side had the best bid for qualification.
Omri Gandelman (KAA Gent) scores. It’s 3-2.
Gandelman does it again!
He is the hero of the evening! Again Gandelman puts the ball in the goal of Denmark to destination. The Israelites know how to choose his times. The ball hangs for a moment in the rectangle, and in two attempts he taps the ball past Larsen.
3-2! It was hanging by a thread for a while, but now it looks like the certificate is secured!
Smoke!
Brown plays Dean again, but he wants to kick the goal too quickly. As a result, his shot flies high over the goal! What an opportunity…
Penalty not mentioned
Everyone in Ghent jumps up with their arms in the air. The entire Planet Group field saw a penalty after Fernandez-Pardo appeared to have been tapped in the penalty area. The game continues until the ball goes out of bounds. We get a replay and see that Fernandez-Pardo is indeed touched. However, the VAR doesn’t seem to bother him, the Spanish referee just lets the throw in. Strangely…
Adamsen paints the free kick to the nearest square, but the artwork fails. The ball goes a few meters wide of the goal.
Mitrovic makes a mistake, he loses control and loses the ball. But Delorge runs to the aid of his teammate and blocks Adamsen on the way to goal. Instant yellow and a free kick in a nice position.
Dean is well played by Gandelman and takes out his man just as well before shooting at goal, but again Larsen pays close attention. By reflex he stretches both arms above his head and stops Dean from scoring again. The English striker is playing an active game, but it is difficult to score tonight. And besides, signs of fatigue will be visible.
Also the next opponent in extra time
The next opponent in a possible qualification for the Conference League play-offs will also have to go through extra time. The Swiss Lugano and the Serbian Partizan were tied 2-2 over two games.
