The government is trying to make an intense communication counterattack after the huge destruction of the fire in Varnavas that reached as far as Halandri.
According to information from APE, transmitted exactly by ERT, which means that they come from the same government source, during tonight’s inter-ministerial meeting at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the Prime Minister said that “every year we try to become better, with the conditions unfortunately becoming more and more difficult”.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis reportedly expressed his satisfaction with the great effort made in the field by the Civil Protection forces, while also pointing out the improved coordination between the co-authorized bodies and services, which, he said, is a victory for the functioning of the state and its structures.
That the “improved coordination” led the fire to the urban fabric of Athens from a distance of 40 kilometers, Mr. Mitsotakis did not comment on it.
At the same time, the prime minister pointed out, according to the same information, that “we have full confidence in those who handle the operational activity of aerial means”, while he emphasized the fact that the distribution of aerial means is now done by officials who have knowledge of the subject.

According to the same information, during the inter-ministerial meeting, an assessment of the area that has been damaged was made by the competent factors, while as recorded, less than 10% of the burnt areas are forest areas.
Regarding buildings, the first estimate is that less than 100 have been damaged (labeled “green”, “yellow”, or “red”), most of which are not houses.
