With provocative communication tricks, the Mitsotakis government is trying to give the signal of… successful management for the staff mess in the huge disaster of the fire that started from Varnavas reaching Chalandri and resulted in the loss of the life of a 60-year-old woman who was charred inside in the company where he worked, while properties, animals and even forests turned to ashes.
In fact, it is characteristic that for the Mitsotakis government it is considered a success that less than 100 buildings were destroyed.
“Every year we try to get better, with the conditions unfortunately becoming more and more difficult“, the prime minister emphasized without a trace of self-criticism, during the inter-ministerial meeting, on Tuesday afternoon at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

After being informed about how the fiery inferno that reached a residential area developed, Kyriakos Mitsotakis appeared satisfied with the management, while he also “saw” improved coordination between the relevant bodies and services, which, as he said, is a victory for the operation of the state and its structures. He added, moreover, that “we will not allow the significant effort made this year in Civil Protection to be deconstructed”.
And in the context of the damage control operation, the prime minister pointed out that “we have full confidence in those who handle the operational business of aerial vehicles”for which there has been severe criticism from the first moment by citizens and the opposition, noting that the distribution of aerial means is now done by officials who have knowledge of the subject and based on specific operational criteria.
During the inter-ministerial meeting, an assessment of the damaged area was made by the relevant actors, while as recorded, less than 10% of the burnt areas are forest areas.
Regarding buildings, the first estimate is that less than 100 have been damaged (labeled “green”, “yellow”, or “red”), most of which are not houses.
On the same wavelength and the statements of Vassilis Kikilia on Tuesday, who insists on claiming that everything worked properly but the problem was “insurmountable”.
While the fire spread at least 40 kilometers, destroying the last lung of Attica, which is already tragically burdened, in the Mitsotakis government they insist on talking about “rapid operational response” and “improved coordination”. Except none of that worked…
