Warning: This note contains some spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
By now, everyone probably knows that Channing Tatum appears as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, and after that, there has been talk about how the actor has been trying to get his X-Men movie for years.
Tatum was recently on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and talked about the efforts he’s made to try to get the Gambit movie off the ground, and Ryan Reynolds expressed his support for him on social media (via CBR).
In the interview, Tatum commented, “I actually might get very excited because I’ve been actively trying to play that character in the industry for the last 20 years.”
He continued, “First it was at Fox and I worked on it for six years trying to get the standalone movie made. And then, right on the one-yard line, we were about to make the movie and then Fox was bought by Disney. And Kevin [Feige] He said, ‘Look, I love Gambit, but I don’t know how to do it right now. I don’t know how it fits into what we’re doing.'”
Following this, Reynolds shared the clip of the conversation on his Instagram stories, commenting, “It’s impossible not to love and root for Channing Tatum. I’m so happy for this kid. When he does a Gambit movie, I’ll return the favor. If he needs someone to carry sandbags, I’m there. If he needs a Deadpool, I can do that. Someone to provide fresh orange slices to the crew, no problem. Just say the word.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is still playing in theaters and has already grossed over $1 billion at the global box office.
