Video Charlotte Kool did everything she could this afternoon to hold on to the yellow jersey a little longer, but the Dutch rider gave up just a little too much time to her compatriot Demi Vollering in the 6.3-kilometre time trial. However, there was no disappointment afterwards for the winner of the first two stages.
“I have to say that I felt my legs quite early,” Kool told Sporza. “I really gave everything until the finish. I can’t blame myself for anything,” the rider of dsm-firmenich PostNL looks back on her performance against the clock.
Kool started the time trial through Rotterdam with a lead of fourteen seconds on her closest pursuer Anniina Ahtosalo. Demi Vollering had to make up exactly twenty seconds on her compatriot, but at the finish the difference between stage winner Vollering and Kool turned out to be 25 seconds.
And so Kool must pass on the coveted jewel, but she mainly remembers the beautiful moments. “For me, these days could not have gone better. I am very proud,” she concludes.
