Investigators at the Cologne-Wahn air base are investigating the suspicion of a crime against the German armed forces after anomalies were discovered at a waterworks. The barracks were cordoned off for this purpose, the German Press Agency was told on Wednesday. The “Spiegel” was the first to report.
After indications of a disturbance, a hole in a fence was also discovered, it was said. This raised the initially unconfirmed suspicion that the water supply might have been sabotaged. Water samples were also taken for the investigation.
According to this information, the barracks were no longer allowed to be entered or left. The police had cordoned off a large area. Several departments are housed in the barracks. The Bundeswehr’s air force – responsible for travel by cabinet members and high-ranking government officials – is also based there.
