Trekkie from Essen lives his dream
The German Film & Comic Con is taking place in Essen on August 18th and 19th. It is all about films and series such as Star Trek, Vikings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and One Piece. Fans of the series and films will meet at the Essen exhibition center. Many of them will be wearing elaborate costumes of their favorite characters. There will also be many actors and actresses there. Some fans will also be making an appearance at the Film & Comic Con with very special equipment. One of them is Marcus Stock.
He received Radio Essen city reporter Timm Schröder in his attic apartment in Rüttenscheid. There, on the third floor, Captain Kirk’s command chair stands right next to a completely normal sofa. 120 hours of work and a lot of attention to detail went into the gray-covered chair with its many switches and lights. The right sound is also a must. Marcus Stock has been a real Trekkie for over 30 years. His miniature spaceship collection no longer fits in the large display cabinet in the living room. The rest of the more than 1,200 pieces are stored in large boxes scattered throughout the apartment. He has already invested an estimated 40,000 euros in his hobby and he is not alone in this love of space adventures. He regularly meets up with like-minded people at the Trekdinner Ruhrpott Stammtisch.
The Trekkie Stammtisch meets in Essen and Duisburg
The Trekdinner Ruhrpott is a multi-fandom get-together. After it was founded five years ago, it is no longer just Star Trek fans who come here, but also fans of Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and The Walking Dead. The meeting point alternates between the Felis Bar in the northern city center of Essen and the Haus Kontakt in Duisburg. This is where the Nerd Port meeting takes place. Once a month, current films, series, books, projects, news and conventions are discussed. The Film & Comic Con is a special moment for the members. They also have a stand there where they show Marcus’ command chair and the control panel of the Starship Enterprise, which was built by another member of the get-together. There is also a large selection of props and costumes on display.
