With a maximum temperature of 35.7 degrees, Monday was the hottest day of the year so far in Germany. The German Weather Service (DWD) registered the preliminary value in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate. This exceeded the previous high in 2024 – on July 30, meteorologists measured 35.4 degrees in Müllheim in Baden-Württemberg. The heat record could be broken again as early as today, Tuesday: meteorologists expect up to 37 degrees.
The second highest temperature nationwide was also measured in Baden-Württemberg based on preliminary values: In Ohlsbach, the temperature rose to 35.6 degrees. The German Weather Service recorded the third highest value again in Rhineland-Palatinate: 35.4 degrees in the city of Andernach.
Meteorologists are expecting even higher temperatures on Tuesday: maximum temperatures of up to 37 degrees could be reached. The weather service assumes that the heat will spread northeast during the day – and become extreme in some places. Temperatures will only be below 30 degrees near the coast and in eastern Pomerania. In some places it will also be very humid.
Heavy thunderstorms and some severe weather expected
But the weather service is not only predicting high temperatures: During the day, some strong thunderstorms are expected – apart from in the east and northeast. In addition to heavy rain and extreme storms, hail and, in some places, heavy gusts of wind are expected.
There will also be heavy thunderstorms overnight into Wednesday, except in the east and northeast.
