A former Chicago police officer has been sentenced to 9 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing $1.5 million worth of chicken wings.
Court records show that Vera Liddell (66 years old), a former food service director for the school district, which sits on the south side of Chicago, pleaded guilty to stealing the this horror of chicken during her work.
Liddell, who had worked in the district for more than 10 years, was responsible for providing school meals from a local contractor, and the contractor was found to have given her the size of chicken wings, from July 2020 to February 2022, and received invoices from the school district but kept the food for herself.
The theft was discovered during an audit of the district’s food services department, which revealed that the allocated budget had been exceeded.
Court records obtained by CBS show the former employee ordered more than 11,000 boxes of chicken wings, which were supposed to be served in home-cooked meals to students receiving the distance learning during the Covid pandemic.
