Adams to hire new FDNY commissioner – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Mayor Eric Adams is expected to name a longtime safety executive as the city’s new commissioner of the city’s Fire Department on Monday, three sources with knowledge of the position told News 4.

Robert Tucker is said to be the mayor’s choice. Adams will name an FDNY Foundation executive and board member as the new Fire Commissioner at the FDNY Academy on Randall’s Island Monday morning, sources said.

Tucker will fill the position after Commissioner Laura Kavanagh announced last month that she would be stepping down to pursue other career opportunities. He agreed to stay on board until Adams could find a replacement.

Tucker, who, like his predecessor, has no firefighting experience and is a self-described casualty buff who ran fire engines as a kid, works in the communications office of the department in Manhattan as a teenager and later served as a special law clerk to former Judge Richard Brown. Queen’s District Attorney.

For more than two decades, Tucker has led T&M USA, a global security company.
