In his first pre-season match with Liverpool FC, Luis Díaz scored a great goal that made it 2-0 against Sevilla FC at Anfield Road
Luis Díaz played his first and only pre-season match with Liverpool on the Colombian morning of Sunday, August 11. The midfielder was chosen as a starter by Arne Slot, the new technical director of the Reds after the departure of Jurgen Klopp, and thanked his new coach for his gesture with a double against Sevilla of Spain in the official presentation of the squad for the 2024-2025 season of the English team before its fans at Anfield Road.
The Colombian’s first goal came in the 39th minute after a brilliant assist from Diogo Jota, who left him one-on-one with a defender from the Spanish team. Díaz showed his skill with the ball by hooking into the area and after being outlined in front of goal, he shot into the left-hand corner of the goal defended by Ørjan Nyland.

The Colombian continued to be important on Liverpool’s left flank and seven minutes later he sealed the match, just before the central referee blew the whistle for the end of the first half. Alisson cleared a ball from his own half, which was received by the Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch, who immediately passed the ball to Diogo Jota. The Portuguese, like his teammate, with a single touch assisted Dominic Szoboszlai on the wing, who overflowed to assist Luis Díaz, who with the goal at his mercy scored the 3-0 partial.
With the partial victory and the goal unbeaten, the second half began, where the Guajiro was substituted at 63 minutes in place of the young Trey Nyoni, aged 17. This prospect from the Liverpool youth academy was in charge of closing the score, scoring the 4-1 with which the English team celebrated its fourth consecutive victory in the preseason, after the tour of the United States, where it beat Real Betis (1-0), Arsenal FC (2-1) and Manchester United (3-0).
Luis Díaz could get minutes in a second match that Liverpool FC will have on the English afternoon of August 11, but behind closed doors, against Unión Deportiva Las Palmas of Spain. The match is scheduled for 11:00 am (Colombia time) and it is estimated that Arne Slot will field youth players. The first match of the 2024-2025 Premier League season for the Colombian team will be on Saturday, August 17 against the newly promoted Ipswich Town at 6:30 am (Colombia time).

Liverpool’s Colombian striker Luis Diaz is currently the most expensive player in the squad with an estimated value of €75 million, according to Transfermarkt. This estimate puts him ahead of Egyptian Mohamed Salah, whose value has dropped to €70 million from €150 million previously. Darwin Nunez is in third place, also worth €70 million.
Despite a season marked by a serious injury in October 2022 that kept him off the pitch for a long period, Díaz did not lose value in the transfer market. Before his injury, Díaz had been a key reinforcement for the team managed by Jürgen Klopp, who expressly requested his signing. Liverpool paid 45 million euros plus 20 in variables to Porto to acquire his services in January 2022.
Since joining the club, Díaz has quickly adapted to the Premier League and has racked up a total of 47 appearances, 11 goals and 8 assists in 3,047 minutes of play. He has also been instrumental in Liverpool winning three titles: the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
