MADRID, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — 67.1 percent of the Spanish population, or 31.3 million people, watched the recently concluded Paris Olympic Games at least once, according to an audience report released Monday.
Of the total, 58 percent were men and 42 percent women, according to the report, carried out by the audiovisual and digital consultancy Barlovento Comunicación.
With nearly 3.6 million viewers, the most watched event was the men’s tennis final between Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic on Sunday 4 August, which ended with the latter winning and winning the Olympic gold medal.
This was followed by the extra-time of the men’s football match between Spain and France on 9 August, with more than 3.4 million viewers and which ended with the victory of the Spanish team.
The age group that followed the Paris Games the most, which took place between July 26 and August 11, was 45-64 years (41 percent), followed by those over 64 years (34 percent).
The study analysed 1,566 broadcasts, more than 1,200 hours and 20 sporting categories broadcast by the public Spanish television channel RTVE and the international Eurosport channel network.
Sunday’s closing ceremony attracted 7.6 million viewers (16.3 percent of Spain’s population), with an average audience of 2.3 million and a 25.9 percent share of the audience.
The opening ceremony on July 26 attracted 2.6 million viewers and 28 percent of the audience share.
The broadcast of the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Games remains the most watched event in Spain during the Olympic Games, with 5.9 million viewers.
