Hassan on her headscarf
Hassan spoke to De Telegraaf in the run-up to the Games. The headscarf that she has been wearing regularly during her competitions for a number of years was also discussed. When asked whether she understands that some people think that you should be afraid of the growth of Islam in the Netherlands, she responds with a laugh.
Are they afraid of me too?” I am also of Islam. But seriously: Everyone is allowed to believe whatever he or she wants? I don’t understand people who are afraid. I have never seen Muslims in the Netherlands go to people’s houses and tell them that they should believe as we do and dress differently.
I will not tell someone in a bikini or a short dress to change and wear a headscarf. Everyone is free to do it themselves, everyone has their own taste.
