The new evidence raised serious questions about the case, since The prosecutor who led the investigation, Mario Burgos, did not take it into account, nor did Leal’s defense attorney, Ana Julieth Velásquez, that in the report of the aforementioned newscast stated that this anomaly occurred because they initially trusted in the “good faith” of the prosecuting entity, which always had it in its possession.

The video came to light as a result of the documentary Cain, which investigates this crime that shocked the country due to all the surprising twists it has taken. since November 22, 2022, when Mauricio Leal and his mother, Marleny Hernández, were found dead in the stylist’s mansion in the municipality of La Calera (Cundinamarca), half an hour from Bogotá.

“We started to see a lot of irregularities, things that didn’t fit and we wanted to get a little closer to try to really investigate what was behind this investigation. While it is true that (…) an expert could have been hired, a selective search hearing could have been requested so that the phone could be reviewed in its entirety, it is also true that within this process it has always been said that Mr. Jhonier Leal does not have the financial resources to pay for such expert evidence,” reiterated Ana Julieth Velásquez.

The lawyer stated that this once again showed that her client had no guarantees in the judicial process and “he never had a fair trial.”
