Queen Silvia of Sweden has unexpectedly left the Paris Olympics.
The Queen and King Carl XVI Gustaf arrived in Paris on Monday, August 5, together with other Swedish Olympic athletes. The royal couple was supposed to participate together in the table tennis final, but only the king himself has been seen there.
Court press manager Margareta Thorgren tells Aftonbladet that the queen’s reason for leaving is family.
According to the magazine, the queen has been forced to leave Paris by her older brother Ralph’s95, creates in Belgium.
– As you can see, the king is still in Paris. He looks at the performances of all Swedish athletes and wants to encourage them, Thorgen tells the magazine.
95-year-old Ralf is Silvia’s oldest brother and the only one of her siblings who is still alive. Brothers Jörg and Walther died in 2006 and 2020.
Sources say that the siblings have always been very close. Queen Silvia herself has also once commented that her relationship with her brothers is very warm.
At the Paris Olympics, Silvia has had time to witness the victory of swimmer Sarah Sjöström and pole vaulter Armand Duplantis.
