A BSP legend ranked among the seventh richest pensioners in our country. They receive a personal pension exceeding the so-called ceiling, which is currently BGN 3,400. By law, former prime ministers, presidents and members of the Constitutional Court can take such money for old age, it is clear from the data in the online statistics of the National Institute of Social Sciences, write “Svobodno Slovo” and “Weekend”.
Only a few months ago, there were four people without a pension ceiling in our country. There are 4,607 people with a pension of BGN 3,400, 3,852 of whom are men and only 755 are women.
It is assumed that the former prime minister of the BSP, Zhan Videnov, has also joined the ranks of pensioners. The former youth from the BSP, who stood at the head of the state, is already 65 years old, which he turned in March.
According to the law, all persons who have held the post of Prime Minister of Bulgaria are exempt from the BGN 3,400 ceiling rule and can receive the full amount of their pension. Thus, Videnov takes about 4 grand a month.
The 45th prime minister of Bulgaria had a chance even for an even higher pension, but the final amount was reflected in his last cut just three years before he retired. At the end of 2020, he was released from the European Higher School of Economics and Management in Plovdiv, where he was a teacher for a long time, and the reason was the sudden bankruptcy of the higher education institution.
