“We did something beautiful.” Wilfredo Leon on the silver medal of the volleyball team at the Olympic Games
The Polish national volleyball team won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris on Saturday. However, it was hard for the Polish team to celebrate it right after the final, which they lost 0:3 to France. The hosts presented a very good game and although the Poles gave their hearts on the pitch, they had to admit the superiority of their rivals. Our special envoy in Paris, Miłosz Kuter, spoke with the Polish volleyball players.

The special envoy of the Polish Radio RDC in Paris, Miłosz Kuter, spoke with the Polish volleyball players after winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. The French presented a very good game and although the White and Reds gave their hearts on the court, they had to admit the superiority of their rivals.
Wilfredo Leon, who is taking the national team, admitted that he was pleased with his performance at the Paris Games. The Pole became the leader in the service aces classification.
— I wasn’t looking for speed here, I was just looking for as many aces as I could and I think I ended up leading on this element. Could I have done better? Only God decides, not me. I tried, I gave everything I had and it went the way it went —said Leon.
Wilfredo Leon is happy with the silver medal, but admits he feels dissatisfied.
— The work this year was very hard and we did something very beautiful, something we had been waiting for for a long time. I will really keep these games in my heart. Okay, it is obvious that these are games and every medal counts here, but on the other hand, what can I say, this is a medal that we lost in the last match. It is hard for me — he confessed.
“We achieved success”
Norbert Huber, the team’s middle blocker, has a different approach to the silver medal.
— I think that overall it was a good tournament. We achieved success, but now people also say that it could have been better. Well, of course, it could have been, but we definitely played volleyball differently throughout the tournament. We showed different faces, from the best ones to those a little weaker and worse. Today, volleyball is a game of mistakes, whoever makes the fewest wins and gains laurels. — Huber emphasized.
Norbert Huber also summed up the Polish national team’s performance at the games.
— I am happy to be here. Looking back, I had the chance to be part of this group. I worked for 26 months to be here. I thought about the Olympic Games in Paris, that I would like to be part of this team. Today I am in the place I thought about and I am happy that we have a silver medal — said Huber.
The French defended their title from Tokyo and became Olympic champions again. We waited 48 years for the Olympic volleyball final, we will wait at least another 4 for gold.
