161 new companies in the Freistadt district

DISTRICT OF FREISTADT. There were 148 new business start-ups in the district in the first half of this year.

Including the 13 company takeovers, there were 161 new companies. Most of the new companies were founded in the trade/crafts sector (69), followed by retail (42), information/consulting (25), tourism/leisure industry (7) and transport and traffic (5).

In Upper Austria, 3,612 commercial companies were newly founded between January and the end of June. Compared to the first half of 2023 (3,624 new companies), this represents a minimal decrease of 0.3 percent or twelve companies. In addition to the new companies, there were 374 takeovers (first half of 2023: 295). This represents a significant increase of 26.8 percent. “Whether as a main occupation or part-time, more than 3,600 Upper Austrians saw self-employment as a desirable career option. The stable and high level of start-up figures proves that many people are unswervingly choosing the path to entrepreneurship even in economically difficult times. The significant increase in takeovers is particularly striking. This shows, among other things, that the information event on company succession, which has already been successfully held several times in many districts and will be continued again in the autumn, is having an impact,” says WKOÖ President Doris Hummer, commenting on the figures. “Among the new companies founded there are already 15 flexible corporations or FlexCo. This proves that the legal form introduced in January is quickly being accepted by the market and was the right decision to make Austria even more attractive as a location, especially for start-ups,” says Hummer.
